PbamE - Inducible Promoter
The bamEp promoter upregulates the bamE gene which is responsible for the aggregation of outer membrane proteins and membrane permeability by production of protein BamE. This promoter is activated by RpoE, the sigma 24 factor of RNA polymerase. Since RpoE is activated by external stress on the plasma membrane, it activates regulatory genes such as bamE to respond to extracellular stress. Known stresses include misfolding, heat shock, and osmotic shock of outer membrane proteins, and structural changes to the membranous lipopolysaccharides. RpoE binds to bamEp within -41 b.p. before the transcription start site for upregulation of mRFP in our system.
